Ronald Calvin Stubbs, Sr.
July 16, 2009
Ronald Calvin Stubbs, Sr. 73, went to be with the Lord on July 16, 2009. Ron spent the last month at his home in Pleasant Hill, Iowa surrounded by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Grace Church located at 4200 East 25th Street, Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday, July 21 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a light meal and reception/visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Ron was known for his faith in Jesus, love for his family, and commitment to excellence in everything he did.
Throughout his life, Ron was dedicated to both the local church and to global missions. He served the people as an elder at Bethany Reformed Church and Grace Church of Des Moines, and CrossWay Community Church of Altoona. In addition he loved teaching the scriptures and counseling. His involvement with missions included Youth for Christ, Friends of Mexico and overseas evangelism. His greatest passion was sharing the Gospel and inviting others to receive Christ as personal Savior and Lord.
When Ron attended High School, he met the love of his life, Sharon Jones. They were married for 52 years and had 3 children, Sherry (Stubbs) VanderPloeg of Altoona, Ron Stubbs Jr. of Ames, and David Stubbs of Pleasant Hill. Ron embraced his calling to be a father and loved spending family time boating at the lake or working at the acreage. Later, Ron’s pride and joy became his grandchildren. Sherry and husband Tim had Shayla and Eric. Ron Jr. & Nancy had Tricia, Ron III (Trey) and Tiffany, and David and Danielle had Branden, Austin, Damon, Megan. Grandchildren in-law include Joshua Hood, Brian Weiss, and Kayla Dungan soon to be VanderPloeg. Added blessings are his great-grandchildren: J.T. & Emmersan Hood, and Ella Dungan. Ron was born in Marshalltown, Iowa to Walter and Agnes Stubbs (deceased). He is survived by his brother Gene (Marilyn) Stubbs, his sisters, Linda (Guy) Patten and Lenora (Paul) Youngberg and Ron’s mother-in-law Dorothy Jones.
As a career Ron began as a carpenter and became a well known homebuilder and land developer. Developments include Otter Ridge in Ankeny, Terrace View, Eagle Ridge, and Falcon Ridge in Altoona. He was known for his quality craftsmanship and integrity he put into every home he built.
In Ron’s spirit of Christian giving, we encourage any memorials be given through an act of kindness. We request that you give time or money to someone or some charitable organization. Please send his family a note about your gift.

Sharon and family,
I am so sorry for your loss of Ron Sr. He was a wonderful person and will truly be missed by all. I am sorry I could not attend the service yesterday, but I talked with my sister, Pam, and she said it was a nice service and very well attended. I will always remember our days at Bethany Reformed Church. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It was such a joy and a true pleasure to know Ron. The words that I would use to describe Ron are KIND and GENTLE. I will always remember the times at Grace Church out in the atrium when he would stop and say Hi and have something nice to say to Nicki, KJ, Mandi and myself.
We love the Stubbs family very much!

On behalf of my family, I wish to send sincere sympathy to Sharon, Sherry, Ron Jr and David and their familis. Ron was always such a kind, caring and generous man. Our memories of him are warm and numerous. He most certainly heard the words "Well done, good and faithful servant." He will be missed.

Dear Sharon & family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. Terry cherished the time he spent working for Ron many years ago. He learned so much from him & often talks about how much respect he had for Ron. We will donate to the local Nursing Home where Terry's Dad resides in Ron's name. Our deepest sympathy to you all.
