Louise Nelson, 93, passed away July 11, 2009. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2009 in the Penthouse at Scottish Rite Park, 2909 Woodland in Des Moines where Louise had been a resident for 14 years.
Louise was born January 28, 1916 in Des Moines to Conrad and Ellen Fredrickson. She graduated from East High School in 1934 where she met the love of her life, Harold Nelson. After retiring from Iowa Paint and Leachman Lumber she and Harold traveled the world. She was interested in antiques and their restoration, quilting, volunteer work and particularly Swedish cooking and entertaining. Louise was known for her generosity in sharing her baked goods and her Christmas Swedish smorgasbord. She lived in Des Moines until the last two years of her life when she went to live with her son and daughter-in-law in Florida, which was her dream come true, to someday live in Florida. The things most meaningful to Louise were spending time with her family, her friends at church, East High and Scottish Rite Park.
Louise's memory will be treasured by her sons, Donald (Linda) of Des Moines and Bob (Venetta) Nelson of Palm Harbor, FL; grandchildren, Shawn (Janell), Brad (Karrie) and Shelly Nelson, all of Des Moines; and her great-grandchildren, Cutter, Camrun, Emma Lee and Tate Nelson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Plymouth Congregational and Hospice of Central Iowa.

My parents, Eddie and Bev, have great memories of your parents. My Dad and my brother, Sam, knew Harold through the Riverfront Y, and also through the John Hancock Insurance business with the Nelson family. My folks introduced me to Harold and Louise at a Drama Workshop production, where I served on the Board and worked backstage at almost every show. They were a generous, fun and charming couple. And yes, my Dad still remembers potato sausages and delectable pastries she would frequently send his way via the Y Guys!
