Clarence John Vander Linden, died July 10, 2009 at Valley View Village in Des Moines. Clarence was born on August 20, 1918 to Martin N. and Lulu Schakel Vander Linden in Pella, Iowa.
On October 7, 1939, he was united in marriage to Leateane Vander Pol and they made their home in Des Moines. C.J. and his son, Marc, owned and operated Audio Com, Inc. for 40 years. He served in the United States Navy, until his honorable discharge.
C.J. enjoyed his family and many friends, as well as his years spent at Clear Lake, the dance floor, and the big bands. He never forgot a good joke or a good story to tell, and always enjoyed a good laugh. We will all miss him.
C.J. is survived by his wife, Harriet; son, Marc (Carol); grandchildren, Rick and Jill; and great grandchildren, Dharma, Valis, and Sirius. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leateane; brother, Lee; and sister, Ruth.
Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Per CJ's request, he will be cremated following the visitation with a graveside service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Marc & Carol, Rick, Jill - I am saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle Mule. What a guy! I remember so many good days at their home from years back - back when Pepe was still living. They sure had that dog trained, or perhaps that's backwards. Maybe Pepe had Mule & Leate trained :-)
I treasure my memories of the afternoons that Grandpa Les & Grandma Hazel took me to Leate & Clarence's. The stories I would hear! I hope he was able to share some of those stories and memories with the next generations down.
I'm sorry I won't be able to attend either the visitation or service but wanted to let you know that you and the rest of the family are in my thoughts!
