Michael Helm

Mike Helm was born May 27, 1957, in Des Moines to Robert and Neva (Smith) Helm. He died July 9, 2009, at Mercy Hospital.
Mike attended Des Moines schools and served in the U.S. Army. He coached his sons in Altoona Little League and was an avid men's fast pitch softball player. Mike played in city leagues and continued in the 40 & over tournaments until he was 50. He was a union glazier and retired from Forman Ford Glass Company. Mike enjoyed traveling the Western U.S. particularly the mountains.
Mike married Kyle (Welch) in 1976, and together they gave true meaning to "love & family". He is survived by his wife; sons, Jeremy (Abby) and Joshua (Vanessa); grandsons, Jacob and Reese; granddaughter, Kodi; brothers, Bob and Gary Helm; sisters, Mary Mefferd and Peggy Woods. He was preceded in death by his parents and his triplet brothers, Larry and Jerry.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church, 3857 E. 42nd St. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date.
