Georgia Porter Dowd

Georgia Porter Dowd, 90, died July 4, 2009 at the Madrid Home. Family will greet friends at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday July 8, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Georgia was born October 1, 1918 to G. Paul and Ethel Porter in Burnside. She graduated from North High School and attended Drake University. On January 2, 1943, she married John Earl Dowd who died in 1994. Georgia was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Georgia worked as a corporate secretary and fleet manager for Continental Fiberglass. She was also a corporate secretary for Amdal and also worked for the Des Moines Junior League. Georgia had a zest for life and enjoyed many things including playing tennis, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and her life-long friends and neighbors from 45th Street.

Georgia is survived by her children, Sharon Dowd-Jasa of Boone and Kevin (Dee) Dowd of Bondurant; grandsons, Hal and Kevin Jasa of Des Moines, and John Dowd of Bondurant; niece, Pamela Dowd; nephew, Robert Dowd; and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Dowd; parents; sister, Kathleen Williamson-Ashby; brothers-in-law, C.L. Williamson and Arthur Ashby; niece, Judy Williamson; and nephew, Laing Williamson.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Animal Rescue League.
