Henry J. Bernard

Henry J. Bernard, 69, of Des Moines passed away on July 3, 2009 at his home from cancer. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial following at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4-8 P.M. Thursday, July 9, at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home where there will be a 7:00 P.M. Rosary.
Henry was born on August 24, 1939 in LaSalle, Illinois, the son of Henry and Joan (Prince) Bernard. He was a machine designer at Townsend Engineering where he had worked for 33 years. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Empty Nest Group. He served on the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard and was a 4th degree Knight. He also volunteered at Living History Farms and was a Eucharistic minister and a greeter at church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Barbara; his daughter Martha (John) Vodochosky of Sioux City; his brothers John Bernard of Edinburgh, Texas and Joseph (Ann) Bernard of LaSalle, Illinois as well several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
