Jeanne V. Vermie, age 100, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at her home at Valley View Village.
Jeanne was born May 18, 1920 in Runnells, Iowa. She was born and raised on a 400 acre grain and dairy farm by her parents, Hildred and Walter Bivans. Her childhood revolved around the community of Runnells, IA. She married Marvin Vermie and they had four children. She retired from Northwestern Bell (now US West) in 1982. Her family attended Capitol Hill Christian Church, and later joined Grant Park Christian. She was always very involved in her church helping in numerous capacities and sitting on many boards and committees. She was honored with the titles of Elder, Deaconess, and Elder Emeritus. Jeanne was a member of Eastern Star at East Gate Lodge, serving as Worthy Matron, Grand Representative of Iowa Hawkeye Links, and was president of this group. While living at Valley View, Jeanne helped serve refreshments for entertainment groups, was chairman of the group of volunteers, headed Guild Bazaars and rummages sales, and was president of the VVV Guild. She loved to cook, and was always taking special homemade treats to people. Jeanne was a selfless and giving person, always volunteering her time and helping others in need.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Ann and son, John (Cynthia), several grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, two daughters, Cyrene Rae and Sue Ellen, her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and son-in-law, Ron.
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. There will be a visitation at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Powers-Warren Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Valley View Village in loving memory of Jeanne.
