Joyce Ann Gillespie

Joyce Gillespie, 65, was born July 25, 1943 in Des Moines, the daughter of Glenn and Millie (Green) McFarland. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Friday, July 3, 2009 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Glenn (Tonia) Gillespie, David (April) LaFary and Michael Gillespie; daughter, Jennifer (Nick) Gillespie; sisters, Wanda (Jake) Sawatzky, Glenda McFarland and Shirley, and Dixie (Ted) Mallard; brother, John (Di) Hamilton; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Gillespie; son, Mark Gillespie; sister, Connie Knapp; Mother, Mildred Hamilton and father, Glenn McFarland.
Joyce and her husband, James, managed a mobile home park in California for 20 years. When James died she returned to Des Moines to be close to her children. Joyce enjoyed playing Bingo and poker, but most of all loved life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the funeral and private inurnment of James and Joyce's cremated remains will take place at Laurel Hill at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice Johnston in loving memory of Joyce.
