To the friends and family of Ian Rucker,
Ive known Ian since he was my research assistant at the BLS, and have known him since, as he has gone on to graduate school at the University of Maryland and even been a co-author of mine on some research. Ian was a bright, hard-working person who was simply a joy to interact with and be around. I was very much looking forward to Ian finishing his graduate studies and joining the ranks of the research community. You have my deepest condolences for your loss, and my prayers are with you all.
Sincerely,

I briefly worked with Ian during him time at BLS. Unfortunately, the only time I interacted with Ian involved me asking computer questions. I have to say what a great guy he was - he kindly and competely answered everything without ever pointing out how mundane my questions were, which can be rare when you are asking stupid question. We've missed him since he went to UMD!
God Bless you Ian!

Dear Rucker Family:
I have just returned from traveling to hear of this very sad news. My condolences to all of your family. I am a faculty member at the University of Maryland and Ian was a student in one of the first year classes this last Fall. I also have worked with Ian in the past through this position at BLS. In this capacity, I have co-authored a paper with Ian along with Jason Faberman and Steven Davis. I very much enjoyed all of my interactions with Ian -- he was a bright and lively student and a great pleasure to work with. I am so sorry to hear about this news.
Sincerely,
John

To Friends and Family of Ian Rucker
Ian Rucker worked with me for two semesters as a teaching assistant at the University of Maryland. In that capacity I came to know him quite well. He was an outstanding individual who was always willing to do more than was asked. When I had to miss two classes on very short notice I had full confidence in asking Ian to step up and lecture a very large class even though he was only a first year student. I had looked forward to seeing him next fall and deeply regret his passing.

To the family of Ian Rucker:
My thoughts and prayers are with you. My condolences for your loss.
"May you see God's light on the path ahead,
When the road you walk is dark.
May you always hear, even in your hour of sorrow,
The gentle singing of the lark.
When times are hard, may hardness never turn your heart to stone.
May you always remember, when the shadows fall--
You do not walk alone."

I am a fourth year Ph.D student here at UMD. I did not know him very close however, what I saw was that Ian always had a nice smile on his face. I hope his soul will be in piece and he will keep his nice smile forever.
