Katie Carpenter

Kathryn Carpenter, 83, died Tuesday, June 29, 2009, at the Ramsey Village in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born April 13, 1926, to Hugo and Florence Marxer in Birmingham, Alabama.
A devoted mother, she was the solid foundation of the family and offered her perspective on life to her children and extended family. Kay enjoyed classical music and movies, traveling and cards with her sister. In addition to raising her family, she held various clerical and managerial positions at Hiderstadt TV in Manchester, Iowa and Bournes Laboratories in Ames. After retirement she supported numerous charities and foundations in the Des Moines area in addition to her volunteer efforts.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Paula MacFarlane; son, John (Janice) Carpenter; 1 grandchild; 1 great grandchild; her brothers, Hugo (Jackie) Marxer and Robert (Genie) Marxer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Bert Carpenter; her sister, Jerrie Stielow; and her son in law, Robert MacFarlane.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Hamilton's near Highland Memorial Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Story County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ames Iowa followed by a luncheon at the funeral home. Friends may visit with family from 12:00 until 2:00 PM on Tuesday.
