Ramona Linn (Summers) Tassin was born to Jerry Summers and Sandra (Summers) Gaulke on September 20, 1964 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She died unexpectedly of heart failure Monday, June 22, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center.
Mona is survived by one daughter, Erica Jade Tassin; first husband, Mike Tassin; partner, David Ross and his daughters, Paige and Lindsey. She is also survived by her parents, Sandra and step-father, Kevin Gaulke; grandmother, Gail Myers; brothers, Jerry (Sherry) Summers Jr. and Kirby (Linda) Summers; sisters, Julie Summers, Connie (Bruce) Carney and Kristy (Scott) Garber; 5 nieces and 7 nephews; step-grandparents, Doris and Leo Gaulke and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mona was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Summers; grandparents, Derald and Velma Summers and Ernest Myers.
Mona graduated from Bondurant-Farrar High School in 1983. She was a very active and outgoing person who loved collecting a variety of things. Mona loved any and all animals, especially her cats Sabrina and Felicity. She enjoyed cooking and grilling out, but above all else, she loved spending time with her family. Mona had a very giving heart, a terrific sense of humor and contagious laugh. She will be dearly missed.
The family will greet friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Hamilton's Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St. SW in Altoona, where funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Cremation will follow the funeral, and private graveside inurnment will be at a later date in the Franklin Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Mona.

When Linda called us to let us know about mona's unexpected passing we were all shocked.
I was pleased to get to know mona as I got to know the family she was so friendly and welcoming and excepting of me and we also and some laughs together. Lori was shocked at the news and was remembering the greet memories that she had of mona and how she will miss her deeply as we all will. Our hearts go out to you Sandra, Kevin, and family as you go through the loss of mona at such a young age.

Where do I even begin to talk about Mona? From the time I first met her so many years ago, I was so impressed with her loyalty to her family. Even though Mona has had many challenges in her life as we all have, she always had that smile on her face and what a great laugh! I will always cherish how much Nick and Amanda meant to her as I know how much she meant to them. My thoughts and prayers are with you as I will also bury my father this week. It is not easy to say good-bye but this is the time that family must rely on each other for strength and support. I am glad that Amanda and Nick can be there with you as Mona would have liked that.

Hello Sandy and family,
Was extremely saddened to hear of Ramona's passing. She will be missed
greatly. Although I didn't know her as you did, I do remember her being at
alot of our reunions. She always had a smile and was a very happy/jolly gal.
You are all in my prayers and will continue to pray for healing as time moves
on.
I want to be with you all for the funeral but am taking care of a 5 year old
as well as a dear 90 year old lady in town. She requires alot of help but is
such a joy to be around.
Between Jo Campbell and I, we have sent out several e-mails to the family to let know of the situation.
As many will tell you, let us know if you need anything.

I am saddened to hear about mona's passing. she was a great person and one I was proud to know. Her laugh is what gave her away one day at Dollar General, I was in the store helping out a district manager, we looked at each other like we should know each other but it wasn't until I heard that laugh coming from the office that I turned and asked "aren't you Jerry's sister". she coultdn't wait to let Jerry know she ran into me. sorry girls but mona was always my favorite when I was invited over to jerry's house for family functions, I think at first it was because erica seemed to like me as a baby, but as time went, i fell for the humor and laugh she had. Miss you all greatly, and my family is praying for all of you at this time of need.

Dearest Sandy, Kevin and Family,
I was so saddened to hear of the loss of your daughter, Mona. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sandy, I remember the time your brought Mona into the East office (early 1980's) to meet your co-workers. A laughing, pretty teenager. You and I talked a lot about the fun we had raising teenage girls. I cannot imagine the pain you are going through right now.

Kirk called me to let me know about Mona. I regret to not have had occassion to see her more recently. I was shocked and sad to hear about her death. It has been so many years since I have seen everyone.. guess thats what happens. But I have such fond memories of Mona and really enjoyed knowing her and spending time with her and Kristy and Connie and as well as the whole family on holidays and family events. I cant imagine experiencing such an untimely loss. My prayers are with you all and heart goes out to the whole family.
