Service Details

William H. (Bill) Shambaugh passed peacefully from this life on June 17, 2009 at the age of 88. He was born in Chicago and was raised by his parents Ira Shambaugh and Jessie Field Shambaugh in Clarinda, Iowa.
Bill attended Cornell College where he met his future wife, Ella Warton. They were married and spent over 61 years happily together. With their four children, they enjoyed many family adventures with trips to Colorado, Minnesota, and Canada. Bill and Ella also traveled to England and Wales to visit relatives, Cynthia and Robert Marshall. Bill said these were the best paces in the world. He took pleasure in fishing, working puzzles, and playing cards with the "pinochle gang."
Bill's proudest personal accomplishments were working up to six stripes in the Army during WWII and the Korean War and earning his CPA certificate. He was a partner in the accounting firm of Augustine and Company until his retirement. During this time, he was a member and past president of the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants. Bill was also a member and past president of the Lions Club, the Waveland Masonic Lodge, and Shambaughs International.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ella, who passed in 2004. Survivors include his children, William J. Shambaugh, Cinda Shambaugh, Stacey Shambaugh, and Christopher Shambaugh of the Des Moines area; his sister Ruth Watkins and her husband Bob Watkins of Clarinda; his brother-in-law John Warton of Florida; his grandsons Nathan Shambaugh of Des Moines, and Benjamin Shambaugh and his wife Naomi Tan of Brooklyn New York; his great grandsons Eric Shambaugh and Ryan Shambaugh of Des Moines; and nieces and nephews.
A private service with his four children has been held where Bill and the cremains of Ella were eternally united and laid to rest.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ramsey Village and Iowa Hospice for their kindness, care, and love in making Bill's later years and last days comfortable and peaceful.
