Irene McCollom

Irene McCollom passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7th, 2009.
Irene was born August 21, 1915 to Ed and Mabel Van Ginkel at home in rural Warren county. She married Raymond McCollom on March 7, 1939 and worked for the City of Des Moines Assessor's office for many years. She was active in the Des Moines Women's Club, YMCA, Eastern Star, TTT and the Ladies of the Blue Goose. Irene was an avid golfer, loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is celebrated in life by her son, Ed McCollom and his wife Deanne; her sister, Katherine Simon; grandchildren, Lora McCollom (Doug Sinclair), Melissa Nichols (Eric), Darcey Brunkhorst and Darrin Eckard; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ray; brothers, Edward and Roy Van Ginkel, and sister, Harriet Peterson.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, Ashworth and Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home, 3000 Willis Ave, Perry, IA 50220 where Irene has resided for the past two years.
