Roger Lewis Hopper
October 06, 2020
Roger L. Hopper, 76, passed away on October 6, 2020, at his home in Mitchellville. He was born on July 1, 1944, to Harry and Pauline Hopper.
Roger grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Saydel High School. He married the love of his life, Joan Sparks, on July 17, 1966. They lived their lives to the fullest, always on an adventure between going places or hanging out with the gang, going to a rendezvous, or just taking a midnight trip to get ice cream. Roger was known for many things in life; being a draftsman for capp homes, running his business, being a volunteer fire fighter on the Mitchellville fire department, and all of his beautiful art work, but the thing he was most proud of was his family. Joan and the boys were his everything. He spent days teaching the boys everything they needed to know, especially how to make sure grandma was taken care of, and keeping her from knowing the things they probably shouldn’t have been doing. Then came the mugwarts (grandchildren). He was still always ready to make new adventures going on field trips, teaching them to run the business, and telling them all the stories. To say he will be missed is an understatement, but he will live on through all of his loving family and friends. The stories will never stop being told, Adios papa.
Roger is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan; sons, Bobby Jo Miller (Lynn), Jeff (Christie) and Nick (Darcy); mugwarts (grandchildren): Emily (Tim), Dakota (Cassie), Andrew (Katlin), Nicole (Darryl), Kayla, Jaden, and Chaska; his great-grandchildren, Ebony, Zoey, Ethan, Adam, Liam, Allyson, Olivia, Gabriella, Trace, Theodore, and Emma; two brothers, Charles (Mary) and Jim (Pam); sister, Carol; as well as other loving family and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Larry, Danny, and Delores “Toot”.
A memorial party will be held at Roger and Joan’s home on October 24, 2020 at 12 p.m. Please feel free to stop and remember Roger with the family.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Roger.
