It was in that small gesture of trying to remember everyones's name that Darret made people smile and feel special. I remember talking to him about his trip to Chicago to see the Bears play, his face lit up even more, if that was even possible. Thank you for sharing your caring smile with the world. It will be truly missed.

I knew Darret in high school, he was a few years younger than I was, but he was a good kid, and I got to know him.
years later I found him on Facebook, and he remembered who I was, and I understood talking to him that he had accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, I was going through a rough time a few years back and I remember he prayed for me. I think that's the greatest thing you can do for a person, and I hadn't seen him since around 1991. he was a really good guy and I know that he is with Jesus, he's with loved ones that believed the way he did who were there to greet him. I'm glad to know that he went peacefully. my condolences to his mother, so sorry for your loss.

Darrett is so very missed! I talked with him just a day before his passing when I was getting my dinner at the cafeteria. Everyday, he showed positivity, greeted us by our names and made us feel so very loved and important at Unity Point. I remember when he told me how happy he was with his significant other and I was so very happy for him. We would talk about sports, life and current events. I could be in the worst mood and his bright smile, sense of humor and wit would make me happy. I looked forward to going to the cafeteria to talk to him and see what he was up to. He was genuine, funny and respectful of everyone. Truly one of a kind and my heart breaks for him and his family. May you rest in peace dear friend. You are loved so much!

My husband works at Hoover and I tend to wear a lot of Hoover shirts. When I'd check out in the cafe, he would always know the latest information about Hoover and ask me about the school. That's the great thing about him. He cared and it showed.

Darrett was a joy to know. He would often ask about the other chaplains and took delight in remembering each person's name. He let his light shine brightly!! May his memory continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
