Janet Mason

Janet W. Mason, 84, peacefully passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Janet will be cremated and per her wishes, no services will be held. Her family will hold a Celebration of Life party later this summer.
Janet was born August 14, 1924 to Clyde and Bertha Wagoner in Valley Junction. The family moved to East Des Moines where Janet attended Brooks Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Junior High, and graduated from East High School in 1940.
After graduation, she began working as a telephone operator and supervisor for Northwestern Bell. In 1947, she met and married Elmer Alce Mason. In 1949, she gave birth to her only son, Tod, and stayed home to care for an ailing mother and small child. After the death of her husband in 1962, Janet worked several small jobs. In 1968, she started work for the State of Iowa as an Unemployment Auditor where she retired in 1985.
Janet is survived by her son, Tod, and his wife Gerri Mason; grandchildren, Tod E. Mason II and Shannon, and her husband, Anthony Thede; cousins, Kay and Richard Finley, Harry and Phyllis Wagoner; nieces and nephews, Ermine, Aldine, Jackie, Susan, and Rosie; numerous friends and neighbors; and special thanks to Deb Bradley who took such good care of Janet in her final days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; and special lifelong friends, Jim and Bernice Ross.
