Charlesetta White, age 63, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Charlesetta was born December 8, 1956 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to Napoleon Durley and Vennie Cunningham.
Charlesetta enjoyed cooking and made a career of it. She worked as a head cook at Hennepin County Medical Center and several long term care facilities in Minneapolis, MN. Charlesetta loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren as she helped to raise many of them. In her younger years she loved to party and was self-titled the “Domino Queen”. She was particularly fond of Karate, Kung-Fu, and cowboy movies often amusing her children by facetiously claiming that Chuck Norris and Stephen Seagal were their fathers. During the latter part of her life she spent her leisure time traveling, caring for the elderly, and watching her favorite tv shows: In the Heat of the Night, Perry Mason, Law and Order Chicago PD. She also loved listening to Blues.
Charlesetta is survived by her oldest son, Zewayne Durley and daughter-in-law Jessica and children: Michael Bonham, Darla Stahl, Anthony Humphrey, Treyvon Sneed, Quinton Perkins-Wade, Tyrese Durley, Judah Durley and Kyra Woodard; daughter, Kathy White and her children: Katyra Jordan, Andre Miller Jr., Carmelo Mozee, Isabella Lewis and Imani Lewis; daughter, Kizzie (White) and son-in-law, Thomas Miller and their children: Thomas Miller 3rd, Patrick William Taylor 3rd, Patrika Charlesetta Taylor, Trayvon Domtas Taylor, Ja’Marion Marcell White and Jalaya Drelyn White; daughter, LaShannan (Crayton) Robert Marks and their children: Charlesetta Crayton and Tavion Marks; youngest son, Otis Crayton Jr. and his children: Jamiya Crayton, Hakeem Dewitt, O’Tjya Crayton, Oshawn Crayton, Otis Crayton III, Amillion Williams, Demarquez McDonald, Ako Crayton, Ge’Auvieon Crayton, R’Ziah Logan, Ta’Marieon Crayton, Chamari Crayton and Chamyrah Crayton; and youngest daughter, Mamie (Crayton) and son-in-law, Chris Snoddy and their children: Antil Snoddy and Asa Snoddy; as well as 12 great grandchildren; 10 siblings; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephew.
Charlesetta was preceded in death by her father Nepolean Durley, mother Vennie Brown, grandson Kenyatta Daviontae Taylor, nephews Sammy Wells and Andrew Lee Wells, great nephew Marcus Wells, great niece Annie Wells, and her best friend Pearlie Luereancy Dean.
Funeral service will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020.
