Khamhai Chanthavong

Khamhai Chanthavong, 79, passed away on September 22, 2020, at his daughter’s home. Mr. Chanthavong was born in Nong Bok, Khammouane Province, Laos, on June 3, 1941.

Khamhai was raised in Laos and served in the Laotian military. Later in life, he moved his family to the United States and resided in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He worked at Lomont Molding and Hon Industries throughout the years.

Khamhai enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and fishing. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and visiting with friends.

Khamhai was preceded in death by his mother and father, Thip and Ae Khambien; brother, Khamheung Khambien; sister, Khamsan Khambien; and two children.

He is survived by his loving wife, Khamman; children, Eric (Lamphone) Chathavong, Maniphone (Donnie) Vongsa, Michael (Annally) Chanthavong, Odavone (Mitchell) Sanner, and Bang-on (Jake) Chanthavong; grandchildren, Tien, Alexei, Gabrielle, Kenny, Mack, Micky, and Pierce; his brother, Khamsiang Khambien, and his sister, Khamthai Khambien.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2020, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with visitation to begin at 2:00 p.m.
