Celebrating the life of
Sandra Vaden Reicks
August 31, 1942 – September 20, 2020
There will be a memorial service Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at First Church of God, 4201 East Douglas Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50317. Flowers and condolences may be sent directly to the church between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
Sandra Vaden Reicks was born August 31, 1942 in Maquoketa, Iowa to Nedra Tubbs and Vaden Morehead. She joined her parents, her step-mothers Jackie and Elma, her sister Betty, nephew Tony, and great-grandson Clayton on Sunday, September 20, 2020 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 78 surrounded by her family.
Sandy attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluff, Iowa from elementary through high school. Sandy worked as a waitress at the Kirkwood Hotel for 20 years, and Walmart for 5 years, before retiring. Sandy was still close to friends she had known from her twenties. She was loyal, funny and stubborn, but full of love. Sandy loved traveling, looking at the autumn leaves turn, camping, country music, birds, cats, the Hawkeyes, football, the 49ers, WWE Wrestling, and the Lord.
When Sandy was a young girl, she became deaf as she almost drowned in a horse trough. Because of that incident, she was very afraid of water and never learned how to swim or even got into the water at a beach or a swimming pool. That is until last summer in July 2019. She, for the first time in over 70 years, got into a swimming pool when she went camping with Cathy and Eddie and the family. Sandy was adventurous and loved a challenge and she will be missed.
Sandy is survived by her brother Tommy Morehead, four children: Eddie Reicks (wife, Charlene), Bobbie Jo Reicks, Barb Reicks, and Cathy Miller (husband, Eddie), her ex-husbands Butch Reicks and Mickey Stone, her 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
