Evelyn A. Taylor
September 16, 2020
Evelyn Alice (Bigelow) Taylor was born August 14, 1922 to Ernest and Huldah Bigelow in New Hampton, Iowa. On September 16, 2020, the Lord called his faithful servant Evie, at age 98, into His glorious presence while at Taylor House Hospice.
Evie was married to Ivan (Bud) Taylor on July 4, 1947. Evie came to trust Christ as her personal savior in her teen years.
She taught in one-room school houses until she went to Northwestern Bible College in MN. In 1950 Bud and Evie went to Brazil under Baptist Mid-Missions as church planters. In 1954 they started a missionary children’s school as well as starting a Brazilian church. They remained in Fortaleza 14 years. On an extended furlough, they started Temple Baptist Church in Charles City, IA. Later on, they returned to southern Brazil for church planting and started a Brazilian Christian School. After Bud’s death, Evie moved further south and helped her son with the new church plant and helped teach Bible Institute students, as well as teaching in the missionary school. She retired from Baptist Mid-Missions in 1991. She lived with her daughter 12 years and was then transferred to Valley View Village in Des Moines, IA where she resided for 1 ½ years.
She is survived by her children: Lorene Burma of Pleasant Hill, and Philip Taylor (Mary Ruth) of Crawfordsville, IN; five grandchildren: Jason Burma (Julie) of Hutchinson, MN, Christy Long (Greg) of Des Moines, IA, James Taylor (Christen) of Florianopolis, Brazil, David Taylor (Sharon) of Winston-Salem, NC, Rachel Taylor of Lisbon, Portugal; twelve great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Bigelow of Nashua, IA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Evie was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Taylor; her parents, Ernest and Huldah Bigelow; six brothers: Allen, Bert, Robert, Stanely, Donald, and Harold Bigelow; two sisters, Anna Usher and Wilma Crandall; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Evelyn’s funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1503 SE 6th Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua, Iowa.

The Lord used Bud and Evelyn Taylor in my youth. They were part of our church missionary family. We prayed for them regularly and looked forward to each of their visits. What sweet testimonies of faithful servants. My sincere condolences as I know you will miss her greatly.

Dear Talyors,
Your Mom/Grandma was one resilient lady! So grateful for the impact she had in Brazil in the lives of so many. She had a way that at times seemed a little tough. But under that was a kind, generous heart. I know there are seminary grads who were impacted by her life during her years here. May you all rejoice together, celebrating a life well lived for Christ!

After hearing of my MK teacher Aunt Evie's going Home, memories have flooding my my mind and heart. During my challenging teen years I had to leave the high school dorm. Aunt Eve and Uncle Bud made a risky decision to take me in and gave me a place to stay so I could finish school... I am forever grateful.
Phil and Lorene, may your hearts beat with pride for the wonderful impact your mom had in so many lives... memories are forever...

Uncle Bud and Aunt Evie bring back many memories of Fortaleza Academy days, such as going to church in their panel station wagon and sleep overs at their house. Know that I am thinking of you.

Our first meal in Fortaleza was at Bud and Evies and our first place to stay as well was there. They taught us our first lessons of how to live in our new country. After that there are many, many memories of watching how to walk. I could tell stories of how Lorene came up behind Ron and put their arms around him, and then realized it wasnt her dad! Or of you, Phil, when you burned out our 120 volt TV when you and Tim Reiner babysit Cameron. They took us to the Montesse church which became an easy transition to Maracanau. We were on furlough in Grand Rapids when Bud died, so we invited Charlie and Martha and our kids to a special meal at which time we remembered Bud and prayed for your family. They leave a heritage and now are having their due reward. May God bless your family.

Dear family,
I remember your mother and father from years ago when they visited our church. It has been an honor for our church to support them through the years. I was saddened to her of her passing but praise the Lord she is no longer in pain and able to praise her Lord every day! May God give you comfort at this time of loss.

Dear Lorene, Phil and family,
I was so glad to hear you were able to spend time with your mother before she went to be with the Lord. May the Lord give you peace.
I always remember her house in the campus at FA, her happy smile.
You have a lot of good memories.
Blessings,
Dave and Nancy Eldert
