Marco La Cava
September 08, 2020
Marco La Cava, 67, passed away September 8, 2020 at his home in Chicago.
Marco was born on September 5, 1953 in Des Moines, one of two sons born to Joseph and Betty (Cardemone) La Cava. He grew up on Des Moines’ Southside with his cousins and was a proud “Southsider”. Marco graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971. He proudly served in the Air National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Marco worked in the coffee industry for Davey Coffee and McGarvey Coffee. He retired from Sara Lee in 2010. Marco’s employment required extensive traveling, following retirement, he was finally able to settle down. Marco lived in Chicago for 25 years and was the President of the HOA. He loved watching the Cubs and attended many games. Marco had a huge circle of friends and was very good at keeping in touch with everyone.
Marco is survived by his son, Jason (Katie) La Cava and his grandson, Ethan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Greg La Cava.
A private visitation and service will be held at Hamilton’s Southtown. Marco will be laid to rest with military honors at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Boys and Girls Club of America in loving memory of Marco.

Just realizing Marco passed almost 2 years ago. Breaks my heart. 💔 I met Marco in Davenport when he worked with the coffee company. We had some great times together. He was an amazing man. Fun. Intelligent. We would talk about anything. A great dancer and his laughter and smile was electrifying. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Even though it's been 2 years. He will be missed forever. I still smile when I think of him and our sweet times together.

We are truly sorry for the loss of Marco. We lived around the corner from him for 12 years. My daughters grew up knowing Mister Marco as the one who was always there for the neighborhood. We take solace knowing that he is doing great things in a neighborhood in Heaven.

I met Marco when we would visit our daughter who lived in Lincoln Park while going to college and working at John Barleycorns. He was such a nice man and was protective of my daughter and her friends. We have remained friends on Facebook and he always commented on posts and wished me a happy birthday. I will miss him.

I worked with Mister Marco at Barleycorn and lived above the bar. We spent many breakfasts, lunches, dinners, shifts & shift drinks together, and shared many laughs as well. We all loved Marco, and I am so sad to hear of him passing!
