Paula Sue Robinson

On Monday, September 7, 2020, Paula died at Kavanagh Hospice of adrenal cancer at age 65.

Team Robinson has lost its most valuable player. She’s moved up to the Big League… pitching for the angels in Heaven.

Paula Sue Robinson was born November 19, 1954, to Paul and Betty Weckman. As a kid, she loved roller and ice skating. She was a baton-twirling majorette at North High, Class of 1973.

Paula’s father died young so money was scarce for her and her five brothers. She began working at Dairy Queen at 13. An accomplished seamstress, she made many of her clothes for school. Paula earned degrees in fashion design and childhood development. Jobs at Northwest Fabric, Ardan’s, and U.S.P.S. spanned four decades. In her final decade, Paula managed her home-based Cabin Collectibles… finding new homes for hundreds of limited-edition Barbies, antiques, books, and glassware.

Countless family gatherings and holidays were made more fantastic by Paula’s divine cooking, decorating, and entertaining. “Yes, Bob Dear, there are eight more large tubs of Christmas decorations in the basement that won’t bring themselves upstairs!” Love and laughter always and forever.

Paula’s devotion and loyalty to family were constant. She also loved her cats, gardening, games, and movies. Two favorite films were “Gone with the Wind” and “How Green was My Valley”. Her music ranged from Elvis to Cher to Lady Gaga and Tom Jones. Work hard, play to win, and put the scotch tape back where it belongs.

Paula found comfort as a member of Prairie Center Methodist Church. She knew that actions speak louder than words. She served Christ by serving others. She always made children and elderly guests feel like celebrities… sowing kindness and flowers in generous amounts.

As a serial multi-tasker, Paula volunteered at Ronald McDonald House, rang the Salvation Army bell each Christmas, and delivered her home baked goodies to two nursing homes and Kavanagh Hospice.

Battling lifelong kidney disease, Paula endured 31 kidney stones, too many surgeries, Cushings Syndrome, and adrenal/pancreatic cancer. She courageously soldiered through tumor surgeries, chemo, and immunotherapy in Rochester and Des Moines the past two years. At her sewing machine this April, Paula crafted 300 cloth face masks which she donated to family and first responders whom she greatly appreciated. She willed her body to medical science. No services will be held due to Covid 19 concerns. A celebration of her life will be announced later.

Paula is survived by her husband, Bob; sons, Levi (Courtney) and Alex; Weckman brothers Richard, David, Danny, and Kenny; tons of nieces, nephews, and friends.
