June Marie Jaehnel, 92, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2020, at Taylor House Hospice after a month-long battle with the Covid virus. She was born in Horton, Kansas, on July 3, 1928, the daughter of Michael & Bertha Dwyer spending most of her life in Des Moines, IA. She met Gerry & they married in 1958.
June attended Des Moines East High School & graduated with a Master’s Degree in education & music from Drake University in 1951. Originally involved in primary education, she later became a dedicated wife, mother & homemaker raising 2 children. She remained active over most of her life teaching piano, caring for the elderly, flower & vegetable gardening, sewing & making great homemade foods in the kitchen.
Over her lifetime, June was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church, First Federated Church & most recently New Hope Church. She volunteered many hours towards church activities & loved participating in women’s circles/associations. June cherished spending time with her church family & friends.
June is survived by her husband, Gerald “Gerry” Jaehnel; son, Gary Jaehnel; daughter, Diana Jaehnel; grandchildren, Heidi (Matt) Halbersma-Ling & Brad Halbersma; three great-grandchildren; nieces, Janina (Dan) Ehrlich-Culver & Martha (Alfons) Ehrlich-Kohler; nephew, John (Ulf Henricsson) Ehrlich III.
A celebration of life visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Her celebration of life service & burial will be delayed until a later date (to be determined) at the Highland Memory Gardens.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to: Camp Appanoose (Plano, IA), New Hope Church (Urbandale, IA), or Iowa Railroad Historical Society (Boone, IA).

My condolences to the Jaehnel family. I can't tell you how appreciative I am of all the faithful help Gerry and June gave me at ball games for so many years. June was always so pleasant. She will be missed by all.
