Cheryl Jean Julander
August 29, 2020
Cheryl Jean Julander, age 73, passed away peacefully while camping with family in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin on Saturday, August 29th.
Cheryl was born April 21, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa and Grand View College in Des Moines.
In 1964, Cheryl met her best friend and husband of 54 years, Bob, at the Mississippi River in Guttenberg, Iowa and they married two years later. Together they raised their three sons in the Des Moines area before settling in Ankeny. Throughout the years, Cheryl was a mother figure to more than just her three boys, with many of her friends and her children’s friends affectionately calling her “Ma”. Cheryl loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends with all her heart.
Cheryl and Bob co-owned Julander Printing. She was a past President and active member of the Des Moines Club of Printing House Craftsmen and Past President of the Club’s Eighth District. Cheryl was also an active member and past President of the Des Moines Does Drove 25 in Pleasant Hill where she was always a willing volunteer. She treasured her time at the Elks Lodge along with the many long-time friends they met there.
Cheryl and Bob spent much of their free time together with their family and friends enjoying the Mississippi River and its beautiful surroundings. She loved boating, fishing, and camping and shared her love of the river with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Bob; sons, Rob (Jennifer), Mike (Steph), Bill (Angie); grandchildren, Kayli (Josh) Stumpf, Taylor (Marty) Osmundson, Chelsey, Zach, Cael, Tatum, Will, and Callen; five great grandchildren; brothers, Jim Bunger, Bill (Deb) Bunger; sisters, Patty (Mike) Green, Peggy (Chris) Siebert; brother-in-law, Dick (Chris) Julander; best friend and cousin, Roberta Stolpestad; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents Milt and Velma Bunger and her brother Bobby Bunger.
A private ceremony will be held with family on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, with the hopes of a public Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made toward the creation of a Cheryl Julander Scholarship Endowment Fund, C/O The Des Moines Elks, 5420 NE 12th Ave, Des Moines, IA 50327.
