James “Jim” L. Daily, 81, passed away at his home proudly with his family by his side on August 29, 2020.

Jim was born November 25, 1938 in Unionville, Missouri to Timothy and Ruby Daily. He graduated from Unionville High School. Jim served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. Jim completed the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, OH in 1962. He was a trained meat cutter and worked in Centerville, Iowa, Lincoln, Nebraska and Des Moines, retiring at the age of 62. He married Donna Campbell and they had three children, Brenda, Rodney and Gena. He later had daughter Elisse with Anna Leeper and son Brian with Rose Gill. Jim enjoyed arrowhead hunting, gun collecting, hunting and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his ornery and fun loving personality. Jim loved animals and was proud of his military service.

Jim is survived by his children, Brenda Daily of Newton, Iowa, Rodney Daily of Ira, Iowa, Gena Franklin of Newton, Iowa, Elisse Daily of Des Moines and Brian Daily of Des Moines; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a baby brother at birth; sister, Nadine Perkins; brother, Kendall Daily; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Daily.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Jim will be laid to rest with military honors at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

Memorial contributions may be directed to any Wounded Veteran’s Organization in loving memory of Jim.
