Service Details

Beverly A. Wolfe, 87, passed away August 30, at Taylor House Hospice with her children by her side. She was born in Des Moines on September 29, 1932, to Clarence and Iola Drottz. Beverly was the oldest of four sisters.

Beverly attended Willard Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High, and East High School. Before graduating, she worked for New York Life and then the VA and Federal Employees Credit Union until her retirement. Her financial fastidiousness helped her to become manager of the credit union and of course their farm. Beverly was a life-long church member from Grant Park Christian, to Glen Echo Christian, to Santiago United Methodist Church.

Beverly met her husband Paul in 1947. Introduced by best friends, Paul and Beverly’s first date was a rowboat cruise down the Des Moines River. After that, they were separated only once in life by the Korean War. During that time, Beverly made Paul chocolate chips cookies every week, mailed in a shortening can. They were separated only once more by Paul’s sudden death in January.

Beverly enjoyed traveling, from family trips in the camper that included Yellowstone in 1965, a trip with her daughter to England and Wales in 1981, the infamous trip to Germany with all of her sisters and two nieces, an Alaskan cruise with good friends, and her favorite vacations were the trips she enjoyed with Paul to Hawaii.

Beverly was involved in many organizations including: T.O.P.S., Bondurant-Farrar Woman’s Club, Santiago UMC, and until 2016, she was a regular at her woman’s card club. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, and reading. She sewed many of her daughter’s dresses and still enjoyed novels and her Reader’s Digest until her last few weeks.

Beverly will be joining her husband Paul in heaven. She will be greatly missed by many, including her son, Steve (Betty), her daughter, Kris (Garry), grandsons, Adam Wolfe (Kristine), Shaun Knapp and Parker Wolfe, great-grandsons Theodore and Gibson, three sisters, Nancy Spray, Sherry Nall, Linda Sanchez, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A drive through visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30am on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Santiago Methodist Church, 8190 NE 109th Street, Mitchellville, where masks will be required. A private family service will follow with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Santiago United Methodist Church, Mitchellville.
