Genaro Ortega Mata, Sr.

Genaro Ortega Mata, Sr., 87, passed away on August 26, 2020 in West Des Moines. He was born September 19, 1932 in Crystal City, TX to Miguel and Cruz (Ortega) Mata.
Genaro was an incredibly hard worker. No matter the job he was doing, he would do it with dedication and excellence. He retired after years of dedicated service as a community worker. He was a great humanitarian for the Latino Community. At the end of the day, his greatest joy in life was being with his family.
He is survived by 8 children; 25 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 5 brothers; a sister; and many extended relatives and friends.
Genaro was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; sons, Moses and Javier; daughter, Sylvia; brothers, Candelario and Adan; sister, Eva; and his parents.
Private family services will be held.

Genaro truly was a hard worker. He was hired by Matt O. to do a couple of jobs. I watched in amazement the supreme job that he did.
My deepest sympathies to all of his family. May each of you hold good memories of him and celebrate those times in your mind over and over.

We are so sorry to hear about Genaro. He was such an awesome person ! Don't think I ever saw him without a smile on his face , and he always put a smile on your face. I Always loved seeing him at family gatherings. I'll miss that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. And to Genaro, thanks for all the smiles , I'll miss'em , and I'll miss you.
