Florence Mathern

Florence Marie Mathern passed away on Friday, January 19, 2007 at the age of 88. Florence was born on March 18, 1918, the daughter of August and Agnes Desch. She attended Des Moines schools and graduated from the well known class of 1936 at East High School. She was united in marriage to Marion K. Mathern and they were married nearly 67 years before his passing in 2004. They enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cribbage, church activities and their many friends, their children and grandchildren. She was employed by Younkers for over 35 years.
Florence was an active life long member of First Lutheran Church (now Capitol Hill Lutheran).
Survivors are her sons, Richard (Arda) Mathern of Pleasant Hill, Gary (Patricia) Mathern of West Des Moines, a sister, Virginia Shiffer of Des Moines, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church on Tuesday at 11 am. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street Monday from 6pm to 8pm.
