Service Details

Born Mabel Marie Brazelton, August 25, 1921 in Des Moines, IA, Marie was a devoted wife and mother, who passed away due to a massive stroke in Orlando, FL, May 27th, with her children and their spouses by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband since 1947, Dale Maxwell; parents, Jesse and Florence Swertfager Brazelton; sister Helen Porter; and brothers Bill and Bob Brazelton, Don Anderson and Guy Brazelton. She is survived by her children, John (Nancy Stanley) Maxwell, and Diane (Barry) Maxwell Catley, her brother John Brazelton, as well as her nephew Bill and wife Sue Brazelton, who helped her so much in her final years.
Marie was an active volunteer for the PTA, Scouting, the Bellizzi McRae #659 American Legion Auxillary, the Republican Party and in the USO during WW II. She spent most of her life in Des Moines and spent her last months in Florida, spending quality time with her children, and their spouses, whom she felt were like her own. An avid dancer, she and Dale treasured their time at the Val-Air and other Midwest ballrooms.
Marie attended Lincoln High, and graduated from East High. She and Dale owned the south side Dunkin' Donuts shop and later worked together at National Organization Service.
All who loved her and her spirit will miss her. She spent many an hour sitting with ill family and friends in hospitals, and calling to check on the elderly. She will be missed most by her family, who wished that she didn't have to leave us, but know that Dale was anxiously waiting for a dance in heaven.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 3rd from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 S.W. 9th Street. Funeral services will be Thursday, June, 4th, at 11:00 am at Park Avenue Presbyterian Church, 3120 S.W.9th Street, followed by interment at Glendale Cemetery.
