I am still shocked that Terry is gone. He will surely be missed whenever the music plays. He was a fun person and a great guy who went Full Throttle down the highway of life, living to the fullest. Goodbye Terry, we hate to see you go but know we'll see you in Rock & Roll Heaven

We are so sorry to here about the loss of Terry. He just raced with us Saturday and Sunday in Montezuma. It's always fun listening to this group of +30,+40 guys who love racing so much. It's not always about winning and losing but the friendships and memories that are made. Our prayers are with the family and we will always miss him during our races.....Ron & Joyce Bryan, Dean & Joy Hubbard, Kelly & Lori Bryan & Chip Bryan

To Terry's family: Terry was one of our whole families best friend's. He treated our family as his own. He would come by our shop every other day or so just to tell us the most hilarious stories that happened to him or one of his friends. He was a great person to be around. I know for a fact that our family was blessed to know him and love him. We will miss him terribly.

I knew Terry only recently in past couple years through common friends and racing mx. I had to opportunity to help him last week with his new hot tub but things didnt develope as he wanted. I could tell that he was genuinely appreciative to the assistance his friends gave him in his endevour. And his niece is correct, his newly aquired dog did give him away. If Terry wasnt at the race scene or shop, he was referenced, nobody could quite reproduce the funny short skits comedy that Terry experienced in life. I was always impressed and inspired to see him battle it out with younger fast riders and come out on top, one time comes to mind with JW at the farm in the open class.
He did in life what we all wish we could do, I will remember is drive, passion and humor. My best wishes to all his family and friends.
We all meet in the end.

Condolences to all friends and family. I also wrote this on www.vitalmx.com Rip man! This sucks I have been racing for 22 years now and have known who Terry was for that 20. I was always intimidated to go up and talk to him because of his rough appearance. I still remember in 1992 at Kahoka Missouri for some reason they combined OPEN and the schoolboy class. Ok Stagger start us and I was working my way up through some of the Open riders. Do you know what its like to get roosted by this guy when he was on a BADA$$ CR 500 sheesh. I was glad when he finally tired and I got by him finally. But I have to say on Sunday at Montezuma we lined up next to each other both moto's. It was so cool sitting there finally 20 years later to talk to this guy. WE sat there bs b4 are motos and he was telling me about his Music and everything. The dude was awesome to talk to, his heart for racing was UNREAL.... He told me he was 51, and I told him I was 31 and he started laughing. Then he tells me he had been racing D22 since 1971 and Graduated in 1976. I was like wow this guy is hardcore. Its so wierd he told me that he was planning on a Millville trip. Im glad I finally got to spend a whopping 10 min talking to him. I learned alot about a guy that I would of never thought had that much talent in life. RIP Big Guy........ God Speed and Rock On!!!!! Were losing a great person.

I was fortunate to hangout with Terry a few times at motorcycle races in various places and was very saddened to hear of his passing. It didn't take much time with him to realize what a great man he is. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. RIP Terry you may be gone but you will not be forgotten.

This is what I wrote on Racer X, I am very sorry for your loss. 5/27/2009 7:45:24 PM - I was very sad to here of his passing on Mon. because just this past Sat. and Sun. We had raced together, he in the +30A and me in the +30B/C. I couldn't beleive it. I didn't know him all that well but anyone around him for 5 minutes knew of his passion for motocross. I remember the last thing I said to him, we were on the line and Terry came in late with his fuel cap hangin by the vent hose, I got his attention and told him, we both laughed because of the fact that the VP fuel he ran would not feel very good on his groin. I was always amazed at how a man of his experience could still ride so hard and make it look so easy. Terry you will be missed Rock On and Ride Hard!

To the Family of Terry Chumbley,
I wanted to write and express my sympathy for your tragic loss. I never knew Terry but it sounds like he was a very special person. I too recently lost a loved one in death and would like to share something that helped me. It has to do with the hope that the Bible holds out. At John 5:28,29, Jesus Christ promised that there will be a resurrection of the dead. Revelation 21:3,4 promises that God will wipe away tears, pain, sorrow and even death. So there will be no more times of sorrow as we experience today. If you would like to find out more about this hope feel free to contact me. Again accept my sympathy for your loss.
Sincerely,
Diana Fryer

This is a terrible hit for entire Midwest MX community. Terry was one of those guys who you could always count on seeing at the track, and you could tell being around him how much he loved the sport. I will certainly remember and miss seeing him running laps with his distinct style.
Terry was one of those guy who didn't seem to be out for the fame or fortune, but rather the gratification of pushing his own limits and seeing just how fast and hard he could ride. He had the style of a bulldog, and whether it was a practice session or an amateur national, Terry was always grit before glamour, pushing himself no matter where he was racing, what place he was in, or what was on the line.
In this day in age, the truest of the old school racers is a rare breed. I can truly say that Terry was one of these guys. He raced and rode because he loved it. I hope this is one memory of Terry's that everyone who knew him can hold on to. Starting gates across the state will be missing one of the good guys. Godspeed, Terry.

Dear Family, I spent a lot of time with Terry over the decades I knew him. I will miss him every time I run a band. He and I saw a lot of things in the same light. The absence of his talent, humor, and his laugh will leave a great void in my life. Rock In Paradise, Terry. I love you, Brother and I really miss you.
