Janice Ackelson

Janice Pinneke-Ackelson, 75, of Des Moines died on January 18, 2007 at Hospice Kavanagh on 56th. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 P.M. Monday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home where there will be a 7 P.M. rosary service.
Janice taught school at St. Anthony’s for many years and later worked and retired from the Postal Service. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the St. Anthony’s Altar and Rosary Society, the Red Hat Society, the Over 50’s Club and the Linden Ladies. She enjoyed gardening, especially her wild flowers, shopping, crafting and visiting historical places on bus tours. More than anything she loved to read and was always happy to be surrounded by her books.
She is survived by her children Steven Pinneke of Bloomington, Illinois, Richard Pinneke of Des Moines and Mary Kay Mullarkey of Des Moines as well as 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas in 2005.
