Service Details

Frances Elizabeth Christianson was born August 25, 1918 to John A. and Edna M. (Faulds) Haberer in Grinnell, IA. She went to serve her Lord on Thursday, January 18, 2007 after a heart wrenching struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Windsor United Methodist Church, 6222 University Ave. in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church where the family will be present to greet visitors. Burial with follow the service at Resthavan Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Frances spent her early years in Malcolm, IA, and grew up in Perry where she graduated from Perry High School. She met her husband after moving to Des Moines to attend the American Institute of Business. They eloped to Missouri on December 8, 1941 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. They spent their “honeymoon” in San Luis Obispo, CA where John awaited transfer to the South Pacific. They recently celebrated 65 years of love and devotion.
Frances is survived by her husband, John; brother, George Haberer; and children: son, Robert and his wife Mary Lou and their seven children: Carrie, Cory, Casey, Courtney, Charlie, Cody, and Carter; daughter Elaine and her husband Russ and their three children: Robert, Lisa, and LeAnn; daughter Debra and her daughter Dena; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John Edward.
Frances was devoted to her family and especially delighted in the occasions when all could get together. She loved to cook and entertain and was a friend to many in her neighborhoods, her church and her hometown. Her greatest joy was in helping others. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed. Memorials may go to her church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway is handling arrangements.
