John Hammond

John R. Hammond, 53, of Johnston, died Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at home. Memorial services will be held 12:00 P.M., Monday, January 22, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue.
John was born October 16, 1953 in Washington, Iowa. On June 25, 2005 he married Peggy Erquist. John was a member of the IBEW #55, the Red Rock Yacht Club and the Saylorville Yacht Club.
He enjoyed spending his time with his family and friends. John loved the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all boating with his family and friends. His favorite place to travel was Isla Mujeres, Mexico. He loved to go hot-tubbing and start a good bon-fire wherever he could.
John graduated from a tech school and began a 33 year career in the power line industry. Recently John and Peggy began to fulfill his life long dream of opening a boat repair business.
John is survived by his wife Peggy of Johnston; his children, Brandi Hammond of Des Moines, R.J. Hammond of Sigourney, and Katie Hammond of Omaha; his step-children, Christine and Carlos James of Pleasant Hill, Becky McCarl of Des Moines, Betty Jo McCarl of Des Moines, and Frank McCarl of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Xavier and Jaylin James of Pleasant Hill, and Hendrickson Schauff of Des Moines; his parents, Richard and Lorna Hammond of Wapello; his brothers, Ron and Mary Hammond of Norwalk, and Rod and Rae Hammond of Wapello; and his grandmother, Jo Hammond of Columbus Junction, Iowa; aunts, uncles, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, and his paternal grandfather.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of John.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Nest Bar and Grill in Johnston following the memorial service.
