Nick R. Zagar

Nick Zagar, 79, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at the home of his niece, Stephanie (Gary) Miller after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Nick was born on May 9, 1930, in Carney, Iowa.
Nick served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. He managed the Gas Service Department for Iowa Power and Light Company. Nick was a life time member of VFW Post 9662, the Croatian Lodge and All Saints Parrish.
Nick was an avid golfer, gardener, cook and baker. Everyone enjoyed his homemade pies and goodies. Nick's faith was a very important aspect of his life. Many will cherish the palm crosses that he made during Easter time. He was a father figure to all of his nieces and nephews and also to his fiance's family. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Nick will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Carol Zagar and fiancé Carole Weeks. Nick is survived by his sister, Charlotte (Ed) Udrovich and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Ave., with burial to follow at Oralabor Cemetery. A visitation with family present will be from 4-7:00 p.m. Monday at the church, with a 6:30 p.m. vigil service.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or All Saints Catholic Church in loving memory of Nick.
