Margaret L. Rees

Margaret “Margie” Lorraine Rees, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines.

Margaret was born September 20, 1927 in Lehigh, Iowa to Martin Edward Reed and Irma Mae (Wilson-Hattrup) Reed. She graduated from Waterloo High School and obtained two years of formal education at Gates College. Margaret worked as a Field Auditor for Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals for over twenty years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church and a devout Catholic. Margaret was a devoted, loving mother to her nine children. She was a member of the Moose Club and enjoyed riding motorcycles, reading, solving puzzles, and going to football games.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Irma Reed; her first husband, Kenneth Leslie Seavey; her second husband, William Ralston Rees; her sons, Robert William Rees and Patrick Reed Rees; her brothers, Calvin Dean Reed, Stanley Reed, and Gunnar Everett Haltrup II; her sister, Bernice Moller; and her son-in-law, Tom Hurd.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth Leslie Seavey of Waterloo, Michael Robert Seavey (Nancy) of Cedar Falls, Catherine Marie Hurd of Eldora, Mary Margaret Berlingame (Rich) of Kentucky, John Ralston Rees (Brenda) of Cedar Falls, Paul Martin Rees (Lana) of Granger, and James Edward Rees (Lisa) of Adel; many well-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 22, also at Hamilton’s, and will be followed by burial at Westlawn Cemetery in Lehigh, Iowa.
