Tomas Gonzalez
August 11, 2020
Tomas Manuel Gonzalez, 61, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully Tuesday August 11th with his faithful companion Zorro by his side.
Tomas is preceded in death by his parents, Esequiel and Sophie Gonzalez, as well as his fur children Sasha and Patches.
Tomas is survived by his daughter Jessica Nelson (Matthew), his brother Rick Gonzalez (Wendy), his sisters Cathy Karn (Brian), Christina Gonzalez and 2 granddaughters Jade and Jordyn Nelson.
Tomas was born in Des Moines, IA to Esequiel and Sophie Gonzalez on October 20, 1958. He worked as a painter for Carey Cleaning Solutions for the past 5 years. Tomas enjoyed working on cars and had a knack for body work. He loved to spread his knowledge and enjoyed teaching the "young bucks" everything he knew.
Tomas was a giving man who never hesitated to help someone in need even if it meant giving them his last dollar. He never met a stranger and genuinely enjoyed meeting new people and talking about anything and everything. He could get along with anyone and would have people smiling and laughing within minutes of talking to him.
Tomas was not the kind of person that would want people to be saddened over his death but rather celebrate the joy he brought to their lives. To honor this, the family has decided to forgo a traditional service and will be instead holding a celebration of life from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., October 17th, 2020 at Union Labor Park, 4640 NW Morningstar Drive, Des Moines, IA, 50313. The family requests that you bring your own lawn chair and that the wearing of masks and social distancing will be enforced. Family will give a 48 hour notice if inclement weather were to occur.

I am so sorry, Tomas was such a kind and thoughtful man. I am happy we got to see him in June when Brian was home, he always made a point to stay in contact with his old friends. Prayers and Hugs.
