Nathan Carpenter
August 11, 2020
Nathan Russell Carpenter was born at Iowa Lutheran in Des Moines, IA on May 15, 1975. He was born to Russell Carpenter, and grew up raising hell on the Southside of Des Moines.
On April 29, 2004 Kelsey made Nate a father. He loved being her dad. They were incredibly close. On October 4, 2014 he married the love of his life, Deb. He and Deb made their home on the Southside of Des Moines. He deeply loved his family and always found humor in everything.
Nate made his living as a truck driver. To his co-workers and friends at Elder, he known as “Music Man”. He would get on the CB and entertain his friends with his musical stylings. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was the king of building fires. He also enjoyed camping, telling jokes, driving and jammin’ to tunes, cheering on the KC Chiefs, neighboring and air guitaring. Nate always had a smile to share, and a hug to give. He would do anything for his family and friends. To many of us, he was known as “Safety Man”.
One of Nate’s proudest moments was when became an Elk at Lodge 98 in 2013. He loved being part of a fraternal organization that serves our veterans and our youth. You could always count on seeing Nate’s smiling face at the state conventions and socializing at the club.
On Tuesday, August 11, 2020 Nate left this world. He was a young at heart 45 years of age. He was taken from us too soon.
Nate is survived by his wife Deb Carpenter of Des Moines; his daughter Kelsey Carpenter; his father Russell (Cindy) Carpenter; and numerous family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 16th at 3pm at the BPOE #98 in Pleasant Hill.

My biggest regret was not knowing you longer, Driver. You were a great friend to me, I can never remember having anything but a ball when we were able to hang out. I will be on over-watch for Deb and Kelsey for as long as I live, I promise you that. I miss you, Safe, and I will always love you like a brother.

I'll never forget our Cb singing duets. We sure did belt out those good old tunes like we were in Nashville. And I'll never forget how happy you were when you called to tell me that you and Deb were getting hitched as he would say. Man I'm going to miss you old buddy. I love you brother...

My heart is broken for his wife daughter and dad. Nate grew up with me on Rittenhouse St and the memories I have at his place and mine are way to many to count. I can still hear his laugh and taunting ways. Never was there a dull moment as long as Nate was around. Gone way to soon but will never be forgotten. Russ I truly am sorry for your loss. I remember Nate always telling my brother Brad and I " I've got one of the cool great dad's aren't ya jealous?" BC you really was a cool great dad to Nate and our neighborhood crew. If there's anything I can do please feel free to reach out. RIP Nate you truly were 1 of a kind.

Nathan, I had a long walk down memory lane with both, Craig and your dad today. We talked about all the jokes and pranks that you, Craig and Jay, all played on each other all intended for good clean fun, well most of it anyway..Your dad reminded me of the Gorilla mask :) .. You are a great loss to not only your family but to anyone who knew your silly but loving and caring self. Know that there are many of us who will move Heaven and Earth to be of any help that we can to your family. RIP Nate !
