Gerald Lee Friedmeyer, Sr., age 85, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Valley View Village in Des Moines.
Jerry was born July 11, 1935 in Pleasant Hill, Iowa to Walter and Dorothy (Pickell) Friedmeyer. He worked in manufacturing for Boyt Company, Delavan Manufacturing, Bournes, and Accumold prior to his retirement. He married Shirley Ann Eckstein on February 20, 1954 in Princeton, Missouri and they enjoyed 59 beautiful years together prior to her death in 2013. He was an avid gardener and a Chicago Cubs fan. Jerry enjoyed country music, mushroom hunting, ice fishing, and barbeques. Jerry was a family man and always made his family his first priority.
Jerry is survived by his children, Gerald Friedmeyer Jr. (Sally), Gail Reese (Kern), Marsha Mote, Lisa Friedmeyer, Becky Jo Lowe, and Daniel Friedmeyer; eleven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Andy Friedmeyer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann; parents, Walter and Dorothy Friedmeyer; son-in-law, Butch Lowe; and his brothers, Tim Friedmeyer and Denny Friedmeyer.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Family will greet guests one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be directed to University of Iowa, Eye and Retina Department, to be used for ADNIV research
