Floyd Brandt, 88, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Valley View Village. Memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, at Valley View Village. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. Friday at Manning Cemetery in Manning, IA.
Floyd was born February 8, 1921 in Arcadia, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army First Division during WWII, having participated in the Normandy Invasion. Floyd married Clarris Schroeder on November 24, 1946 in Manning, IA and they moved to Des Moines in 1959. He was the Supervisor of The Crafts at Drake University for 27 years before his retirement in 1984. Floyd was a master woodcarver.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Clarris; children, Sally (E. James "Jim") Lutz of South Dartmouth, MA; and Craig Floyd (Cathy) Brandt of Pleasant Hill, IA; grandchildren, Meredith Brandt (Jesse) Cabarrus, E. Craig (fiancé, Elizabeth) Lutz, Eric Craig Brandt and Emily Catherine Brandt; and great-grandson, Julian Brandt Cabarrus. He was preceded by his mother Dorothy Brandt.
Memorial contributions may be made to Valley View Village Building Fund or First Presbyterian Church.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Aunt Clarris. Uncle Floyd will be greatly missed. I will always remember the fun neighborhood I grew up in and always a must at the State Fair to see Uncle Floyd's wood carvings. God Bless You!
