Allen Francis Butts, 66, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020 at home in Des Moines.

Allen was born August 24, 1953 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Nathan Sr. and Alice (McDonald) Butts. He graduated from Tech High School in Des Moines and married Pamela Richey. They were the proud parents of son, Roderick Butts, Jr. (Brenda) and their children, Macellus, Marley, and Myles; daughter, Sarah Allyne (Kenny) and their children, Keshara and Sierra; and son, Allen W. Butts, Sr. (wife Patricia) and their children, Sydney, Kayla, Kimberly, Tayna, and Allen W. Jr.

Allen was employed by ADM Manufacturing. While there, he was the head of OSHA Safety and was a fork lift operator. Allen was happily enjoying retirement at the time of his passing.

He was an avid long distance runner and ran the Dam to Dam race every year. He was also an avid cyclist and enjoyed riding his bike long distances. He played basketball in high school and carried that passion into adulthood where he played on the Local YMCA Team and different pick-up games at parks around Des Moines including Goode Park and Drake Park. Allen was a music fan and enjoyed listening to many types of music. He was a member of New Beginnings Full Gospel Family Church and a proud member of the Cadillac Owners’ Club. He was proud of his nickname “Ninja” given to him by his brother-in-law, J. T.

In addition to his children and his grandchildren, Allen is also survived by his siblings, Nathan Butts, Jr., Marion Butts (Leona), Tywana Butts, Bridgette Butts, and Patricia Head (James); father-in-law, R. Wayne Richey; sister-in-law, Rebecca Richey (Bob); brother-in-law, Bruce Richey; aunt, Rena Williams; aunt, Judy Butts; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Sr. and Alice Butts; his wife, Pamela (Richey) Butts in 2017; his mother-in-law, Anita Richey; and his sister-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Butts.

Cremation will occur and there will be no formal services held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Allen. He will be missed by all who knew him.
