Bounleua Lovan, 51, passed away due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Sunday, August 9, 2020.

Bounleua was born January 4, 1969 in Vang Vieng, Laos to Vong and One Lovan. He grew up in Laos and moved to the United States on December 4, 1984. He was employed by Bertini Marble & Tile for over ten years and lastly Hormel Foods before his passing. He was a member of the Lao American Association and the Watlao Buddhavath Temple in Des Moines.

Bounleua was a person full of life. His smile would light up the room. His humor caused many laughs. He loved to spend his free time outdoors.. working on his garden or out trying to catch fish. He had an eye for flashy things. It didn't matter what it was.. his cars, his clothes, his accessories.. he had to be stylish. What he enjoyed doing the most was being around his family and friends. He loved to cook and host gatherings. Creating long term bonds and forever memories.. and for this, we all loved him dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Sompong Phoumivong; children, Savat Kevin Lovan (Jessica Xayasane) and Mena Lovan (Alex Meza); step-children, Mimy Sanachit, Johnny Sanachit, and Susan Sanachit; grandchildren, Khaleel, Khalia, Tate, Ethan, Liam, Alonzo, Alexia, and Benji; siblings, Sammy Lovan, Hao Lothi, Chanh Jokerst, OK Lovan, Somsack Lovan, Sypaseuth Lovan, Nouankham Sivongsay, and Nhong Thongvanh; the mother of his children, Souphara Phonkhoumphon; and numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Bounleua was preceded in death by his parents, Vong and One Lovan; and his brothers, Leum Lovan and Sith Lovan.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, and will be followed by cremation.
