Service Details

On Monday, August 10, 2020, Bounkouang Vorasane, known as, Boun, Kouang, foodie, loving husband, father of two children, and grandpa of three grandchildren, passed away in his home surrounded by family at the age of 63.

Bounkouang was born August 5, 1957 in Ban Phao, Laos to father, Boutdy and mother, Khamphew Vorasane. He graduated high school in Vientiane, Laos in 1969. While he was finishing college to become a teacher, he joined the military in 1972. On June 15, 1978, he married Douangkeo Khammalavong. They raised two children, Viraxay and Cindy. In 1985, he took his wife and son, and fled to Thailand’s refugee camp. The family were sponsored by the US and immigrated to America on November 20, 1988.

He was a handyman for a lot of things. He loved fixing up houses, cars, taking things apart and putting them back together. He enjoyed many, many things. Among those things were being outdoors, fishing, gardening with his wife, mowing the yard, chopping branches, the News Channel, the Lao Food Channel, discussing what to eat, and above all, his family. He loved helping other people. He was known for his stubbornness, his laughs, his sarcasms, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

He had a life-long love affair with rice, vanilla ice cream with Hershey’s chocolate syrup, spicy ramen noodles, burgers, tasty tacos, and hot tea. Bounkouang took fashion cues from no one. His signature every day look was all his: plaid long sleeve shirts, plaid pants, paired with his plaid winter hats; collared shirts, jeans, blue Nikes that were always paired with his Las Vegas hat.

He could not care less about most material things besides cars. He loved taking care of his cars and wanted to purchase a sporty one. He loved driving his family around and always filled up gas for his wife to drive. He was that kind of man.

Bounkouang was preceded in death by his father, Boutdy, his mother, Khamphew, and his brother’s, Ly and Sy. He is survived by his wife Douangkeo, his two children, Viraxay and Cindy, his grandchildren, Alexander, Eric and Julius, his brothers, Kheo, and Hou, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines with cremation following. Urn burial will take place Monday, August 17th at 2:00 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery.
