Velma Vida Halverson, 96, died Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Mitchellville Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Velma was born December 20, 1910 in Marshalltown, IA. She lived in Des Moines until 2001 when she moved to Bondurant. Velma was the co-owner and operator of a greenhouse. She also worked at K-Mart. But her greatest fulfillment in life was her family and feeding hungry children around the world. She is survived by her son, Jesse (Shirley) Halverson, Jr. of Kansas City, MO; daughters, Naomi Devick of Des Moines, Kathy (Tim) Denham of Bondurant and Rebecca (Bruce) Klapp of Nuevo Padilla, Mexico; 24 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Halverson, Sr.; two daughters, Gladys Gazaway and Miriam Scalise; three grandchildren, Judy Alexander, Stephen Gazaway and Diana Gazaway and one great-grandchild, Jacob Lewis.
