William "Bill" McClannahan R.Ph
August 02, 2020
William “Bill” McClannahan R.Ph, 86, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on August 2, 2020. He was born April 22, 1934 to Forest and Opal (Hecker) McClannahan.
Bill worked as a pharmacist for over 55 years and retired from Hy-Vee Southridge after 25 years of service. Bill loved what he did and over his career served as a mentor to many. His patients came first, and it was not unusual for him to go the extra mile by delivering medication directly to their homes. In his free time, Bill was a Street Rod and Custom Cars enthusiast. He attended many car shows throughout the state and hadn’t missed a “Goodguys” in over 20 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kathy; children, Paul (Mary Pat) McClannahan, Chad (Mary) Kramer and Jenny (Jerrod) Bauer; grandchildren, Luke, Adam and Benjamin Kramer, and Daniel and Andrew Bauer.
He was preceded in death by daughters, Kathleen in infancy and Laura; and son-in-law, Doug Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona. The family respectfully requests all guest to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Bill will be interred in a private ceremony at Mitchellville Cemetery in Mitchellville.

I echo the well chosen words of my sister Nancy. As life goes on we learn better to "remember the good times." Bill was my Uncle from a life long ago, but I still have memories of his interactions with our family and extend my sincere condolences to my cousin Paul and all who loved Bill.

Just wanted to let everyone know what a great Pharmacist, person, working partner, and friend Bill was to me. Our working relationship was second to none. I truly believed there was nothing we could not have accomplished, if we had the support of our superiors. It was a true honor to work with such a good Pharmacist, and good person. Bill and I use to say, when a really good, kind customer, would pass away, that there was no replacing that kindness & goodness in the world. Well, there is no replacing the kindness & goodness of my friend and Pharmacy Partner :
"Bill McClannahan RPH" !
Hope the peace of the Lord is with Bill, Kathy and family.

Although we didn't know each other well, I enjoyed connecting with Bill on FB. Having lost both my parents, it was a comfort to me knowing that Bill knew them both in their youth. He will be missed. My sympathies to Cousin Paul, Mary Pat and Bill's wife Kathy and all his Iowa friends and family. I wish I had gotten to Iowa for a visit and to ride in the RAGBRAI, which Bill encouraged me to do.
