Sandy Koenig, 67, passed away on July 28, 2020 at her home in Des Moines. She was born in Eldora, Iowa on July 28, 1953, daughter of Ronald and Harriett Handeland. Sandy was married to Dale Koenig and to this union two sons were born.
Sandy was a very loving and caring person. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially with her two children, Chris and Jon. Sandy enjoyed cooking, movies, music and reading. Sandy also enjoyed travelling, especially to Colorado where her parents last resided.
Sandy is survived by her sons; Jonathan Koenig of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his children, Morrison and Lennox and Chris Koenig of Superior, Colorado; siblings, Janet Bayliff, Lonnie Handeland and Vince Handeland; many nieces, nephews, loving relatives and many special friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Dale, David and Denny Handeland and nephew Aron Handeland.
Cremation has occurred and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

My dear friend Sandra, I have only known you for a short time in our lives but if feels like Ive known you for ever. Many times we talked and I cherished each and every time. I found not only a friend but a kindred soul. You will be missed but one day we will meet again. Until then I will keep my promise always.

My dearest Sandy K. I feel like this is a nightmare I can't wake up from. I was in your life for a small amount of time, but you have forever changed my life. I'll miss your voice and your silly sayings. This world was better because you were in it. Forever in my heart, sweet soul! Love you!
