Lawrence MacDonald

Larry MacDonald, 79, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 10, 2009, at home. Larry was born on October 19, 1929 in Chicago, IL.
Larry graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1948 and married the love of his life, Vivian, on October 27, 1950. He was a member of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and First United Methodist Church in Ankeny. Larry and three partners established and ran Hawkeye Auto Supply from 1969 to 1997. He enjoyed tailgating, watching Iowa State football and boating. Larry especially loved having company at their lake house at Lake Panorama.
Larry is survived by his wife, Vivian; daughter, Sheryl (Ron) Berte of Flower Mound, TX; son, Scott (Jane) of Polk City; grandchildren, Larry Berte of Houston, TX, Michael Berte of Saginaw, TX, Tracy (Tom) Weatherman of Frankfurt, Germany, Brian Pauley of Polk City; great-grandchildren, Sean and Maggie Weatherman of Frankfurt, Germany; and sister, Diane (William) Watts of Greenbank, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Lorraine MacDonald.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., with burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery. A visitation with family present will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Iowa State University Alumni Association or Blank Children's Hospital in loving memory of Larry.
