Mabel Poffenberger of Altoona passed away at Mitchell Village Care Center on Wednesday, May 6, 2009.
Mabel was born June 17, 1911 in Fremont, Iowa, to William and Cecil Dinsmore. She graduated from Fremont High School and William Penn College. Mabel retired in 1976 after many years as a Home Economics teacher in the West Bend, Cedar, Runnells, and Dallas Center-Grimes school districts.
Mabel is survived by her daughters Diana Poffenberger of Altoona and Harriet (Wade) Travis of Pleasant Hill, grandsons Matthew (Katie) Larson, and William (Amy) Larson, granddaughters Jenny (Jay) Mooney and Laurie (Mat) Griffis, a great granddaughter Adelle, and a great grandson Milo.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, infant son James William, and her sister Garnet Dinsmore.
Visitation with family present will be at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street in Altoona on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Cedar Township Cemetery in Fremont, Iowa at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Mabel's name.

Our thoughts and prayer are with you at this tough time. Even though it wasn't
unexpected it is still tough to take and mainly before mother's Day. Cherish all the memories and times that you had together with her. She will be up looking down on you. WOW - She lead a full long life - can't complain about that. I was out of town when this came across and we were taking my mom to the Amana's on Saturday.
I know that it will be 3 years this October 6th that my dad got killed in an accident unexpectingly and that has dealt the biggest void in our lives. Such a big piece is missing from our lives.
If there is anything that we can do, please let us know. Again our thoughts and prayers are with you.
