Harold Lee Brown Jr., 59, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at his home from pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Harold was born January 9, 1950 to Harold, Sr. and Bernice Brown in Wichita Falls, TX. He lived most of his adult life in Des Moines where he was a psychotherapist for 14 years.
Harold is survived by his children, Richard (Monica) Chambers and Andrew Brown; grandsons, Tyson and Carter Chambers; mother, Bernice Campbell; brothers, Charles (Connie) Jones and Doyle (Doris) Boyd; sister, Jennifer (A.J.) Turner; companion, Nancy Bembry; and a host of other family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Brown, Sr.
Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Iowa Hospitals Cancer Research Program.

I am so sorry to hear about Harold's death. I had been living in Milwaukee for 25 years and recently returned to Des Moines.
Some of the family may remember me: I attended the truck driving school with Harold back in the early 70s and we used to hang together quite a bit. I had hoped to re-acquaint with Harold once I got settled; unfortunately, "Tomorrow is not promised..." and I failed to do so.

Dear family of Harold Brown
Words are so inadequate at a time like this. I knew Harold when he worked at IUAP. We were both substance counselors at the time. He helped many people regain control of their lives and become contributing members of society. He had beautiful counseling skills and a sincere desire to help others. I had the greatest of respect for him.
I hope it will bring you comfort to know that Harold had many friends who cared about him abd care about his family. May you also find comfort in your own memories and also, above all, know that God is walking beside you during this sorrowful time. You have my sincere sympathy and prayers.
