Beatrice Hammond

Bea Hammond passed peacefully from this life into the eternal life on Friday, May 1, 2009.
Bea was born to Arthur and Erna Wait on June 29, 1915 in Nashua, Iowa. In 1934 she married Glenn Hammond, who preceded her in death, and together they had four children. Bea and Glenn moved to Des Moines in 1940 where she worked at the downtown Younkers store for over 30 years.
She is survived by her three sons: Arthur (Mary) Hammond of Scottsdale, Arizona, Jack (Jan) Hammond of Fishers, Indiana, Denny (Shirley) Hammond of Climax Springs, Missouri; her daughter Karen Chidester (Gordon) of West Des Moines, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters Cleta Phillips of Des Moines, Iowa and Jane Miller of Stigler, Oklahoma.
Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Hospice of Johnston.
