Service Details
George Edwin Nail, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at
11 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Rock Creek Cemetery West of Grinnell, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
George was born August 6, 1921 in Harvey, Iowa to George and Sulah Nail. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from 1941 to 1944. George was a member of Laborer's Local #177 and retired at the age of 62.
George is survived by his sons, Lee Nail of Waukee, Gregory (Judy) Nail of Clive and Rick (Shelley) Nail of Ankeny; grandchildren, Troy, Russell, Scott, Tim, Joy, Ryan, Charlene, Madison; and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen of 52 years, and wife, Helen of 14 years; brother, Orville; sisters, Lila, Mary and Edith.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grinnell American Legion.

I can't completely speak for Lonnie but know that this is a tremendous loss for all. I remember when Lonnie and I first started dating, and the first time I watched the Twilight Zone was when the family all met up at George & MaryEllen's for cards. Outside of my own, I had never been part of such a closenit family. Everyone was having such a great time. And boy - could he cut a rug. As I observed through the many graduation and wedding receptions, he was such a lively spirit. He will be sorely missed. Thank you for driving him to Illinois to Grandma Mary's funeral. He was a true example that even though his mind may not have been 100%, nothing can break the love between brother and sister. Much love to all of you. Lonnie & Tina Payton
